Increased screen time has been linked to increased rates of depression, anxiety, and feelings of loneliness– especially among young people. In the age of social media, being intentional about our screen use can help improve our brain health. Read on for a few tips that can help you take control of your screens and live a more focused and happy life:

1. Turn off or limit notifications on your phone

Oftentimes, we are bombarded with unnecessary notifications that can distract us throughout the day. Think about what notifications you get on your devices and turn off the ones that you don't need.

2. Schedule some screen-free time in your day

Having some designated time away from the screen can give you free time for more enjoyable activities like practicing your hobbies or spending time with loved ones. Additionally, having set times when you put down your phone for the night can help you get better rest.

3. Curate your social media feed

Make scrolling through your feed more enjoyable by being intentional about who you're following. Unfollow accounts that make you feel negative emotions and follow accounts that make you smile or inspire you.
